A splendid day on the rails
What a fabulous day we had from start to finish.
Great food, fabulous scenery & sunshine.
Don, was greeting everyone on arrival at the station, a lovely chap who has been working with this historical railway for 27 years. He obviously enjoys the company and is so enthusiastic and passionate of what has been achieved by the ELR volunteers.
The engine that hauled our train Loco was saved from the scrapyard in Barry in 1985 and her she is now in service.
Loco 80097 was one of the standard class 4 tank loco designed by RA Riddles, 155 were built in the 1950's and only 15 were saved.
Restoration work by volunteers has taken 33 years, she is now a beautiful sight.
Our June departure is sold out but we do have a few seats left for September.
On arrival in Bury you should have about an hours free time, why not pop across the road and have a look in the transport museum? or even a visit to the famous Bury market.
